Dozens of schools and community organizations in Chilliwack, Agassiz and Harrison will benefit from hundreds of thousands of dollars in provincial funding.

The B.C. government handed out $415,000 in Community Gaming Grant funding to 26 parent advisory councils (PACs) and 13 local organizations in the electoral districts of Chilliwack and Chilliwack-Kent during the most recent round of funding from April 1 to Sept. 30.

“I know from my time as school board chair how impactful PACs are at our schools,” said Dan Coulter, MLA for Chilliwack. “Stable funding for PACs means more services for school-aged kids in our province, and funding for arts and culture organizations here in Chilliwack benefits the whole community.”

Grants for the 26 school PACs ranged from $2,000 to $27,200, while the arts and culture grants were between $4,200 and $80,000.

Organizations receiving funding to support arts and culture include:

  • Chilliwack Flight Fest Society - $32,000
  • Chilliwack Museum and Historical Society - $24,400
  • Canadian Forces Base Chilliwack Historical Society - $22,000
  • Chilliwack Youth Orchestra Society - $4,600
  • Chilliwack School of Performing Arts - $19,300
  • The Chilliwack Academy of Music - $28,000
  • Yarrow Choral and Performing Arts Society - $6,000
  • Chilliwack and District Agricultural Society - $51,500
  • Agassiz Harrison Historical Society - $8,000
  • Cascadia Wind Ensemble Society - $4,200
  • Chilliwack Music and Dance Festival Society - $9,800
  • Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra - $19,500
  • Harrison Festival Society Community - $80,000

“Our government knows how important it is to help fund the hard work of the people who enrich our communities, whether it’s organizations that promote arts and culture or parent advisory councils that help keep extracurriculars happening at our schools,” said Kelli Paddon, MLA for Chilliwack-Kent.

More than $18.2 million in new funding will go to over 650 organizations to support arts and culture across the province.

More than 1,300 parent advisory councils and district parent advisory councils will also receive over $11.2 million to support extracurricular activities throughout British Columbia.
