A Chilliwack man is facing several charges in last Sunday morning’s downtown shooting on Nowell Street.

RCMP say Ryan Diablo, 33, was arrested and charged with discharging firearm with intent, aggravated assault, and failure to comply with a court order.

The arrest came on the heels of “exhaustive investigative work” related to the Feb. 4 shooting near the post office in downtown Chilliwack, police say.

On Feb. 7, Diablo, 33, was located in Chilliwack and arrested.

Police say the suspect and the victim were known to each other.

“There is no indication they have any ties to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict,” said Cpl. Carmen Kiener.

It took specialized sections assisting the Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crime Unit in “tirelessly pursuing all leads and meticulously gathering evidence” to advance the case.

“It’s another example of our unwavering commitment to public safety within our community.”

The unnamed victim made it to Chilliwack General Hospital for treatment gun-related injuries, and the hospital was locked down for a short time for security reasons.

“The Chilliwack RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation.”
