In my early years of photojournalism, I was told I should be like a fly on the wall – a tiny thing in the room that no one notices.
Photojournalists quietly observe everything around them as they work. The best images are ones capturing natural moments, not ones where the subject reacts to the camera.
I came to The Chilliwack Progress with that in mind and it has stuck with me for the nearly 24 years I’ve been here.
Sometimes patience is everything. Sometimes you have to get into an awkward position to get the right angle. And sometimes you’ll miss the best shot.
But the key has always been to watch for those moments, to silently and constantly survey the scenes around me, eyeing my surroundings like a fly on the wall.
These are just some of those moments I captured here in Chilliwack in 2023.
