Elderly man suffers serious injuries after being hit by taxi in Chilliwack

Early-morning collision happened at Luckakuck Way and Topaz Drive

An intersection in Chilliwack was closed following a serious collision where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle early Saturday morning.

Emergency crews responded to Luckakuck Way near Topaz Drive after an elderly man had been hit by a taxi shortly before 7 a.m. on Feb. 3, Staff Sgt. Grant Floris told The Chilliwack Progress.

A Cheam Taxi cab could be seen in the bushes on the south side of Luckakuck, east of Topaz.

The victim was taken to hospital with “serious injuries,” Floris said.

He could not comment on whether the man was in a marked crosswalk when he was struck.

The driver of the taxi stayed on scene and is co-operating with RCMP.

More than four hours after the collision happened, the intersection was still taped off and traffic was being rerouted.

“Avoid the area at least for the next hour or two,” he added around 12 p.m., as traffic is heavy in that area.
