Dan Coulter is preparing to run again in 2024 to represent the people of Chilliwack.

It’s was a busy first term, he said about his dual role as MLA, and the minister for state for Infrastructure and Transit.

“We went through so much together as a province, from COVID, to the floods, wildfires and drought.

“Then last summer we suffered through the worst fire season and drought ever in the province’s history,” Coulter pointed out.

Despite the challenges much has been achieved at the provincial level, he said.

“I have to say what an incredible honour it has been to represent the community of Chilliwack in the legislature,” Coulter said.

They’ve been busy focused on “addressing problems that people face in their everyday lives,” Coulter said, pointing to the new provincial housing legislation aimed at tackling the housing crisis by speeding up the home-building process, which makes him feel very proud.

There’s also the introduction of the affordability credit, MSP cuts, fixing ICBC by reducing premiums, and the day-care overhaul, a social program that is saving families tens of thousands of dollars in costs.

“That’s life-changing,” Coulter said about the new day-care program. “We are making improvements people can see and feel and touch.”

Some Chilliwack-area projects that obtained provincial funding in past few years, included the $5 million for the flood-prevention rip-rap work that will protect Shxwhá:y Village and Skway First Nation, funding for the downtown ambassador program, and they secured funding to make Bernard Elementary School more accessible.

There is more to come.

If re-elected next fall, Coulter will be representing the renamed Chilliwack North electoral district. The new boundaries will see the electoral district lose a small part of Yarrow, add part of Sumas Mountain, and add Rosedale.

“We’ve done a lot to date and will continue to do more to make things more affordable for people,” he added. “We will carry on the work that helps working class people make ends meet.”

As minister for state, he has also been watching the Highway 1 Corridor Improvements with keen interest, as they work on the huge highway expansion in phases, toward the fourth phase, where the improvements will finally reach as far as east as Chilliwack.
