Chilliwack’s iconic pink car going once, going twice for charity

Beekman Auctions to match final bid price when auction closes April 4

What would you pay to take home Chilliwack’s iconic, pink, 1972 Plymouth Gold Duster?

The car that sat high-above the now-gone Pick-a-Part auto wreckers for decades is now up for auction, and the final date to throw in a bid is getting closer.

Beekman Auctions started taking online bids on Feb. 29, and the bidding closes on April 4 to the highest bidder. While the price started out a bargain basement price of just $5, by March 21 at 2:30 p.m., that had risen to $2,750, with 40 bids.

Whatever the final bid is, Beekman Auctions is matching the price and doing it for a good cause. All of the funds raised will go to Chilliwack’s Salvation Army.

Steve Johnson said they really hope to show support for the community, while giving someone the opportunity to own the locally famous car.

Beekman Auctions is also hosting a free dinner the night before the final auction, and the car will be on site.

“Sort of like a viewing day,” Johnson said, but also a way to build community within the local farming community. Last year, they had about 1,500 people come out for the free dinner.

Beekman is the only locally owned auction company that serves farmers in Chilliwack and across B.C.

All of the information about the car, along with terms of the auction, buyer’s fees, bid history and how to bid, is available at beekmanauctions.com/auctions, under Spring Equipment Auction.

Bid increments are now set to $250.

It’s unlikely that the Plymouth will ever be driven on Chilliwack’s streets again, at least not without some investment. There is no motor, no registration, no transmission, and it’s sitting on a rolling chassis.
