Robert and Reta Magrath of Chilliwack are looking forward to taking in some U.S. equestrian events after winning $1 million on Jan. 24 from Lotto 6/49 draw.

The Chilliwack couple said they had carefully checked the 6/49 ticket they bought in Abbotsford on their phone from home.

“We were so excited! We had to count the zeros,” Robert Magrath said about the moment they realized they had actually won.

The Magraths told B.C. Lottery Corporation officials they plan to check off some horse-related bucket-list items with their winnings, such as making it to an upcoming horse competition in Las Vegas.

For Reta, she is eagerly anticipating the world finals horse competition in Fort Worth.

“You need to be top 15 in the world. That’s a bucket list goal!” said Reta.

So how did it feel to win?

“Surreal!” said Robert.

The Magraths purchased the winning ticket at Super Save Gas on Fraser Highway and Cottonwood Street in Abbotsford.

In 2023, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $120 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49.
