Canada Post has issued a red alert for Vancouver Island and Vancouver due to snow and freezing rain in the forecast for the rest of Wednesday.
The alert is in place until the weather improves. The snow and potential for freezing rain prompted the alert, which suspends delivery for the affected area.
“A red service alert means that we are suspending delivery for the day and not sending our delivery agents out or recalling them. Delivery will resume once conditions improve and it’s safe to do so. The safety of our employees is our number one priority,” a Canada Post notice says.
Alerts can be issued for individual communities or entire provinces, depending on the scale of the weather event. Metro Vancouver is also under red alert, and southern B.C. is under a yellow alert.
“We encourage customers to clear the ice from their walkways, stairs, and driveways, to ensure safe access to the front door for both their visitors, as well as their mail carriers, when service resumes,” the notice says.
