Agassiz, Rosedale bachelors hoping to settle down on upcoming ‘Farming for Love’ season

3 of 6 prospective contestants are locals, could be featured on second season

Three farmers from the Agassiz-Rosedale area are looking for love in a big way.

The second season of CTV’s unscripted dating show “Farming For Love” may feature two farmers from Rosedale as well as Agassiz’s own Alex Schwichtenberg.

Schwichtenberg, 23, is one of six prospective farmers for the upcoming “Farming For Love” season. Similar to the hit dating show “The Farmer Wants A Wife,” ”Farming For Love” will follow four of the six prospective farmers as they select from a group of “daters” with the goal of finding the special someone to join them for the good life on the farm.

Schwichtenberg is a third-generation dairy farmer who spent his early 20s travelling abroad and working on farms around the world. As such, he hadn’t had much time for his love life. He’s hoping to settle down on the family farm with a special someone.

“This fun-loving farmer will do anything that will make a good story – and how great would it be to tell his future kids he met their mom through this once-in-a-lifetime experience?” reads a release from Bell Media.

According to his Q&A, Schwichtenberg would rather be playing sports than watching them, swimming in the summer and skiing in the winter. He also enjoys camping and learning the guitar.

Schwichtenberg is looking for a partner who is “like-minded and spontaneous” who is outgoing and has a good sense of humour.

“I’m looking for confidence, humility, someone who is family-oriented and respectful, and someone who can carry a conversation and read the room, like knowing when it’s the right time to tell that joke,” he said. “It is also important that my partner works hard and has a job they enjoy.”

Schwichtenberg has appeared The Observer several years ago, during his days as a swimmer with the Agassiz-Harrison Aquanauts.

Farmer Josh and Farmer Kirkland both hail from Rosedale.

Josh is also a dairy farmer, described as “a quintessential hockey-playing, cowboy-hat-wearing Canadian farmer.” He has dreams of settling down on the family farm with a wife and raising some children. He describes himself as a hard worker who can’t sit still for too long and doesn’t take life too seriously. Josh is looking for a partner who is “outgoing, bubbly, and likes to have fun and be active.”

Farmer Kirkland is a rodeo champion and works on a cattle and horse boarding farm on his family’s ancestral land in the Cheam First Nation. If selected for the second season, Kirkland would be the first farmer on “Farming for Love” who is a member of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. He describes himself as a “mix of country meets city,” with a love for spending time in nature, with his family and with his Indigenous community. He is looking for a partner who is up for the busy farm life.
