Radio station attempts to break corn shucking record

Bring photo ID to sign up at Star 98.3 to be part of a huge Chilliwack event at Central Community Park on Friday night.

It's going to take a lot of Chilliwack corn shuckers Friday to get 'er done.

Star 98.3 is taking a shot at a Guinness world record for the largest number of people shucking corn at the same time.

It was morning show host Scott Riley's idea as a way to celebrate the station's 85th birthday, said Mike Hellinger, news director at Star 98.3 FM.

"What is more Chilliwack than corn?

"We're looking for as many as possible to come down to the station and sign up for this."

The current record is 351 set last year. So they're aiming for 352 or higher, but they'd really like to wrangle at least 1000 on July 6, at the summer kickoff of Party in the Park.

Preregister at the Star office in advance to make it go smoother on the night of the attempt. Bring photo ID and be part of a huge community event at Central Community Park. For details 604-795-1468 or starfm.com/events.
