With respect to the letter submitted by Jennifer Douglas in the July 17, 2019 edition, “Rainbow crosswalk is about inclusion.”
What her sister experienced as a young adult (and seems to continue to deal with) is unacceptable. I agree that LGBTQ citizens are not a special interest group.
However, there seems to be a concerted effort by various voices in our society to make them such. By granting such things as rainbow crosswalks would in fact recognize this segment of our culture as a special interest group, which shouldn’t be necessary.
No one should be harassed or persecuted because of their sexual orientation. As Ms. Douglas suggests, human sexuality is complex.
