LETTER: A simple Christmas gift from a stranger

Two days before Christmas and my sister said she needed some special cheese, so I offered to get it for her.

I am a senior and went to Save-on Foods at Promontory and when inside they announced that it is cash only as the card machines weren’t working.

I then drove to Garrison Save-on Foods, drove around and around for a parking space, then went into the packed store for the cheese. I stood in a very long lineup and half way to the registers it was announced that it is cash only (I always have some cash, but not this time).

So I put the cheese back and on the way out asked if it was true. They said I could use my card but it was extremely slow.

Back I went and got the cheese and yet again waited in the now-extremely long lineup. When I came to the cashier it was cash only again, the young lady behind me heard my tale of woe and paid for my cheese.

I had asked for her name and address so I could repay her, but she just said “merry Christmas!”

We watch the news and see the worst of humanity, but there in a grocery store you see the best of people. Whoever you are thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will pay this forward.
