A 94-year-old Chilliwack artist is having a show and sale at her retirement home this weekend.
Carolyn Sharon, who lives at Auburn Retirement Residences, is inviting people to come and see her work for one day only on Saturday, April 6.
“She’s very creative. Her work is so beautiful, she has to share it,” said Kelly Boyle, recreation aide the independent-living facility in Chilliwack.
Sharon paints and also creates sculptures like sailboats and other ships. She makes the boats out of pieces of wood that she finds in the park.
Her work is even more impressive given her most recent condition.
“Right now, her vision is going, but she’s still painting,” Boyle said.
Her eyesight has been deteriorating for about a year. Family members and friends told her that the public needs to see her work because it’s so good.
She had a similar art show and sale last year, but it was only open to residents at the Auburn. The one on April 6 will be open to the public.
Sharon has been painting since before she started school. She was also an art and music teacher, and taught English to new residents of Canada.
Carolyn Sharon’s art show and sale is on Saturday, April 6 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Auburn Retirement Residences (8531 Young Rd.) in Chilliwack. The work will be on display in the main lobby.
