An exhibition highlighting the history of inclusion for people with developmental disabilities is on display at the Chilliwack Museum.
Our Journey for Inclusion: 70 Years of Innovation opened on Jan. 25 at and runs until June 8. It was developed in partnership with Chilliwack Society for Community Living (CSCL) and Inclusion BC.
“This exhibition commemorates CSCL’s 70th anniversary, and examines the history of institutionalization of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in British Columbia, while highlighting stories about the ongoing journey towards inclusion and access in Chilliwack,” according to the museum’s description.
Back in the fall of 2023, the museum put a call out for artists to submit work for Our Journey for Inclusion. The community-submitted art has a theme of “wholeness,” the principle that “people with diverse abilities are whole and valued, and the importance of embracing disability as a part of a person’s identity and a source of empowerment.”
Our Journey for Inclusion: 70 Years of Innovation is at the museum from Jan. 25 to June 8.
The Chilliwack Museum is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors/students, $3 for youth (age 13-17), and free for children age 12 and under. Admission is free for everyone on Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
