From illusions to sleight of hand, Shawn Farquhar can do it all, and once again you can experience it for yourself at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

Farquhar’s Cabaret of Wonders is back for a fifth time with two magical performances on Jan. 20.

“It’s unlike any other magic show in the world in that no two shows will ever be the same,” Farquhar said. “Even when there will be two shows in the same evening they won’t be exactly the same.”

The two cabaret-style shows are a result of the event’s success so far. With the centre’s concession and bar remaining open for both shows, and drinks allowed in the theatre, there couldn’t be a more magical way to experience the wonder and illusion.

“We had to add the extra show due to popularity,” Farquhar said. “We were selling out too far in advance and turning away far too many people.”

The Maple Ridge native got his start in the magic industry more than 20 years ago and has since performed worldwide.

Between appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Penn & Teller: Fool Us, having his magic shown in X-Files and FOX’s Fringe, and performing on cruises including the Norwegian Star and even Disney Cruises, Farquhar has garnered global fame. He’s also the only magician to win sleight of hand and stage magic at the World Magic Championships, and was named the Grand Prix World Champion of Magic by the International Federation of Magic Societies.

Despite his success, the Fraser Valley is still Farquhar’s favourite place to perform.

“I love coming home. As much fun as it is to be on the road, it can be draining,” he said. “It’s great to be challenged to perform in countries where I don’t speak the language, but here at home I can be a whole lot more entertaining.”

Join Shawn Farquhar for his fifth Cabaret of Wonders at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Jan. 20 with two performances, one at 7:30 p.m. and the late show at 10 p.m.

Tickets $20 and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, online at www.chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).
