A Chilliwack cadet will be joining 13 fellow young Canadians and other youth for a virtual international concert next week.
Sgt. Zi Shen Wang of 147 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Chilliwack will be performing with cadets from around the world as part of the concert to celebrate Commonwealth Day on Monday, March 8.
The Commonwealth Day cadet band concert brings together youth from the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada to perform three pieces of music.
Wang is 15 years old and plays the tenor sax. He is one of just 14 cadets representing Canada and was chosen based on his “excellence in music” in the cadet program, as stated in the Canadian Armed Forces announcement.
The concert will include traditional hymn The Crown that Fadeth Not, Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass and the March of the Cobblers by Bob Barratt.
It will be prerecorded and then posted to Facebook on the British Columbia Cadets page on March 8. Although it will be available to view by 4 p.m., organizers are asking people to watch it at 7 p.m.
The Cadet Program develops confident, self-sufficient leaders who form lasting friendships and are engaged in their communities, while promoting physical fitness, healthy living, and fostering an interest in the activities of the Canadian Armed Forces. The Cadet Program has continued to engage youth through the COVID-19 pandemic in a variety of ways, including virtual music training and testing.
