Ballet Victoria will breathe new life into a classic Gothic novel when it brings Dracula to Chilliwack.

Set against a backdrop of hauntingly beautiful costumes and an energetic ballet, Ballet Victoria will re-imagine the story of Bram Stoker’s Dracula at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on March 22.

A captivating mix of classical and contemporary dance, Dracula weaves the two styles of choreography together to tell the story. Rather than focusing on the traditional story’s grisly aspects, the ballet emphasizes the inherent sensuality of the story and also uses the story as a metaphor for peoples’ choices.

It is set to music ranging from Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto to Sia’s Chandelier and even a few tracks from Guardians of the Galaxy.

This evening will also open with a Gothic soirée, where guests are encouraged to dress in their own unique interpretation of Gothic style. Contortionists and music featuring The Valley Babes will fill the lobby before the show, where people can enjoy specialty drinks in this evening of fiendish romance.

Ballet Victoria’s Dracula is coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on March 22 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $49 with discounts for those in the Patron Programs, and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, online at chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).
