Heather Wilbrink (above) tried to not get poked by thorns as she helped remove blackberry bushes from along Luckakuck Creek Saturday morning.
She was one of a handful of dedicated volunteers helping out with the Fraser Valley Conservancy’s stream-side restoration event where people were removing invasive species of plants.
Blackberry bushes, along with ivy, morning glory, common hops and English lamium, were all pulled from the creek’s banks that day.
Last month students from Chilliwack secondary helped Fraser Valley Conservancy plant about 150 to 200 native trees around the creek. In order for them to survive, the invasive blackberry and ivy plants needed to be removed.
