VIDEO: Chilliwack asked to make noise, applaud health care workers every night from front porches

Local women inviting people to join them as they bang pots and pans and cheer for doctors and nurses

It’ll be like ringing in the New Year every night, except you’ll be celebrating something much more valuable.

Our health care workers.

Two Chilliwack women are asking everyone to stand on their porches every night at 7 p.m. and make noise to show appreciation for our emergency care personnel.

Bang pots and pans, shout out loud and clap your hands.

The suggestion came from friends Daris LaPointe and Amber Price after they saw a video of Vancouverites doing the same thing earlier this week. Vancouver-based Facebook page, COVID Applause Canada, was started as a result of the noise-making ritual.

Here in Chilliwack, Price and LaPointe have called it Solidarity At 7.

“Yelling and yodelling. Hooting, hollering and howling,” suggested Price. “I personally am going to opt for pots and pans and metal utensils.”

The two are members of a Facebook group called Chilliwack Citizens For Change where they shared the invite late Monday evening.

Unbeknownst to Price and LaPointe at the time, folks here in Chilliwack had already started making noise. Promontory has been at it every night at 7 p.m. for the past several days.

“Last night was amazing. So many people were out, including their pots, pans, even trumpets. Come on Chilliwack, let’s make some noise!” wrote Carlina Oglesby on Facebook.

Price also would like to acknowledge others having to work through the COVID-19 pandemic including grocery store employees and postal workers.

People are encouraged to make noise every night, from their homes, at 7 p.m.

“We could all use a little levity, while still focussing on something very important to all of us. The more unifying action that we take, the more that we will build community, and come through this together,” Price said.
