Support society offers help to Chilliwack parents, caregivers in wake of pandemic

Parent Support Services Society of BC is offering online support in the time of COVID-19.

“Now more than ever, parents need the time and space to connect. Our support circles are here to provide a safe and confidential space for parents and grandparents and others raising a relative’s child,” the society said in an announcement this week.

It is a chance to share challenges, concerns, questions and offer the support people need during the pandemic. There are online support circles happening throughout the day from Monday to Friday, or people can call one of the support lines.

Parent Support Circles:

Indigenous Circles – Tuesdays 6 p.m.

Other Parent Support Circles – Mondays 9 p.m., Tuesdays 1 p.m., Wednesdays 1 p.m., Thursdays 6 p.m.

Grandparent Raising Grandchildren (Kinship Care) Circles:

Indigenous Grandparents Raising Grandchildren – Mondays 6 p.m.

Other Grandparent and other Kinship Circles – (biweekly) Mondays 10 a.m., Tuesdays 6 p.m., Wednesdays 6:30 p.m., Thursdays 1 p.m., Thursdays 6 p.m.

BC Parenting Support Line:

The stress of juggling home, work, homeschooling and childcare can take a toll on one’s emotional and mental health. Parents can talk to a skilled support worker to get help. Call the provincial parent support line at 1-877-345-9777. Open Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren/Kinship Care Support Line:

Grandparents or other relatives raising a family member’s child can get information and advice from the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support line: 1-855-474-9777. Open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Or email
