Chilliwack Progress photojournalist, Jenna Hauck, brought back a national second-place award for one of her Olympic photos while at the News Photographers Association of Canada (NPAC) 2010 National Pictures of the Year (NPOY) awards and 2011 Photojournalism Conference in Winnipeg on the weekend.
Hauck won silver in the ‘Olympic Feature’ category for her image of American cross-country skier, Torin Koos, who appears to be headless while resting after completing the final lap in his race.
“There were five finalists for that category and I thought I was going to get an honourable mention. I was really surprised to find out that I placed second since I was up against so many talented photographers,” Hauck said.
She got the opportunity to cover both the Olympics and Paralympics while shooting for Black Press in February and March of 2010.
There were more than 1,400 photos and projects entered into the NPOY awards from photographers across the country.
