The streets of Chilliwack were filled with honking horns and lots of cheering over the past two weeks as several schools held car parades in their neighbourhoods.
Elementary school teachers rolled past their students’ homes in car convoys, their vehicles decorated with colourful balloons and signs as they waved at each other from a distance.
Nearly every elementary school in the district had a parade. The Chilliwack Progress caught up with Central elementary’s parade on Thursday, and later asked our readers to share photos and videos of their own school’s parade. Above are some of those images.

Emotional messages of gratitude filled The Progress Facebook page Thursday.
“Made me cry,” Ashley Funk wrote. “I haven’t cried over any of this, but seeing our teachers and hearing so many of the staff call out to my kids by name, that did me in.”
“It made my children’s day. I was overwhelmed with emotion – such a beautiful gesture. Thank you teachers of East Chilliwack elementary,” Carli Jansen van Vuuren wrote.
