PHOTOS: Hundreds gather in Agassiz-Harrison to witness Northern Lights

Hundreds of people gathered along the shores of Harrison Lake, in their backyards and out of town to witness the aurora borealis in local skies.

Space Weather Canada indicated a “major geometric storm” that caused the Northern Lights to be visible throughout B.C. and well down into the United States. The peak of aurora activity was seen on Friday, May 10, though some photographers were able to capture some fainter aurora activity in the Harrison area on Saturday night as well.

The U.S. National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration issued its first geomagnetic storm watch since 2005, saying the weekend’s space activity was a “potentially historic event.”
