There should be some good deals around Cultus Lake Park on Saturday morning.
A Community-wide Garage Sale is one of the first events rolling out from the newly established Community Events and Activities Committee, said Rose Turcasso, Cultus Lake Park Board commissioner.
"It's about creating community spirit, which in turn fosters community pride," said Turcasso, who also chairs the events committee.
"We want to get people excited about Cultus Lake Park."
Most of the events they are organizing will be no-cost or low-cost to make them family-oriented and more accessible to everyone.
"We're out to really celebrate Cultus Lake Park with these events," said Lillian Newhouse, a member of the committee.
The garage sale that kicks off for the first time on May 9 could become an annual event, and they're hoping to showcase their new and improved beach-side market at the same time featuring artisanal products or farmers' market type items. It's the same day as the City of Chilliwack's city-wide garage sale so there will be some bargain-hunters doing the rounds.
Any interested artisan vendors or food truck operators can email rose.turcasso@cultuslake.bc.ca to be considered for Cultus Lake Park events.
For this inaugural garage sale they're printing out maps that they'll hand out from the kiosk on Sunnyside Boulevard starting at 8 a.m. on May 9. More than 40 residents have signed up so far.
Also watch for all-day fun coming up at Cultus Lake Day on June 13, and free movie nights later this summer on Friday nights at Gazebo C on main beach at dusk.
"We're trying to promote the feeling you get at the lake. There's a lovely ambiance here and we want to share it with the whole community," said Turcasso.
