Don your aprons chefs, it’s time to celebrate Canadian agriculture.
In support of Canadian Agriculture Day on Feb. 23, BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation is organizing a virtual cook-along to help promote local food and farming.
“Canada’s Ag Day is a national initiative that brings special attention to local farmers and the delicious food that we all enjoy,” Stan Vander Waal, president of the BC Agriculture Council, said in a release.
“This cook-along will help our community learn about how food is grown and raised, while they are cooking with those ingredients – reinforcing the role of agriculture in their lives.”
The free cook-along will be taking place on Wednesday, Feb. 23 with chef Trevor Randle in an online webinar. Randle will guide participants through two different recipes: Thai chicken curry and baked lemon pudding with blueberry compote. Recipes and a shopping list can be downloaded from the BC Agriculture in the Classroom website.
B.C. farmers Lovella Schellenberg and Mickey Aylard will join Rabdle to provide insights on local farming during the webinar.
In addition to being able to cook along, participants will also be entered in a draw to win one of three prize packages valued at more than $200 each.
“This virtual cook-along is great for experienced chefs, those new to cooking or anyone who enjoys food and wants to learn more about where it comes from,” Pat Tonn, executive director of BC Agriculture in the Classroom, said in a release.
“Chef Randle’s enthusiasm for local foods is contagious. He infuses his passion for food education into his well-paced, easy-to-follow cooking instruction. It’s sure to be a fun evening.”
The webinar is a joint partnership between BC Agriculture in the Classroom and We Heart Local BC.
