Local artist Davis Graham began to tell the story of Chilliwack in spray paint this week on one of the biggest canvases in town.

Graham — who goes by Pencil Fingerz for his hip hop portrait work — sketched out the rough version of his design for the temporary mural commissioned by the City of Chilliwack on the cinder block wall on the building next to Five Corners Park.

Finer details are slowly coming after the broad strokes were laid down. By last Thursday Graham added the first touches of colour, aptly for a Chilliwack mural it was yellow to cobs of corn.

By Monday, more colour was added to the scenes around the Chilliwack Museum, a campsite, a kayaker and more.

Graham was awarded the job of creating the temporary mural project on the city-owned building slated for development.

The city’s Public Art Advisory Committee recommended his design be chosen and, after some discussion, city council agreed at its first meeting in October.
