More cultural learning opportunities are coming courtesy of the people of the river this summer in Chilliwack.
A series put together by Sto:lo Cultural Education and Tourism invites everyone to “experience, learn and discover” the Sto:lo people, the stories, the culture, the fishing, and the art.
Everyone can learn something vital about the vibrant traditions and language with drumming, singing and guided interpretive tours.
Here are the 2019 summer events:
Visit the Longhouse: Storytelling, cultural history and protocols on August 1: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m in the Longhouse.
Weaving wool – take home a small mat project on August 7: 10 a.m. to noon in the Interpretive Centre.
Archaeology, baskets, man turned to stone, Sto:lo movie on August 15: 10 a.m. to noon in the Sto:lo Resource Centre.
Learn about local fishing, traditional methods and teaching August 20: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Interpretive Centre (through the Gift Shop).
Wrap up kiosk tour and Longhouse singing offered on August 27: 10 a.m. to noon. Meet at the Sto:lo Resource Centre by the Welcome figures for a Coqualeetza Grounds tour.
