Garage sale enthusiasts, take note.

The Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra and Chorus (CSO) is hosting a community garage sale downtown on Saturday to support more than one worthy cause.

In a renewed mission and increased effort to bring hope, healing and music to Chilliwack, they have partnered with the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation to benefit a specialized youth mental health initiative based out of Chilliwack General Hospital.

“This is something our community really needs,” CSO VP Debbie Fortnum said. “We want to make sure we’re doing things that really matter, and making our presence in the community count.”

Funds raised through the garage sale will heavily benefit the CGH mental health program and the Salvation Army food bank, in addition to supporting the CSO.

The first annual CSO garage sale fundraiser is uniting musicians, physicians and ‘garage sale freaks’ this Saturday, July 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  at the Vineyard Centre.

To ensure that the community of Chilliwack enjoys the benefits of the CSO far beyond the walls of the Cultural Centre, the CSO Board unanimously voted that all future fundraising events will not only benefit the CSO, but these two other community causes as well.

“We want to be remembered for more than performing,” CSO Director Paula Dewit said. “We want to be known as an integral part of the Chilliwack community.”

The community is encouraged to bring donations of gently used items to the Vineyard Centre (45892 Wellington Ave.) on Thursday between 2 to 7 p.m. to be included in the Saturday garage sale.

Saturday’s fundraiser will also include the sale of BeNanna Bakery goods, refreshments, as well as surprise, on-location performances by Belle Voci and other musicians.

There are many volunteer opportunities available for the Saturday event in the kitchen, as security or on the sale floor.
