Chilliwack RCMP officers and others braved the near-zero-degree Celsius weather when they ran into a chilly Cultus Lake for a good cause on Tuesday.

Several local RCMP members, along with BC Corrections officers and other supporters, took part in the second annual Polar Plunge as they dove into the icy waters at Main Beach to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics British Columbia on Feb. 27.

By 4 p.m. on plunge day, the team was just $5 short of its $2,500 goal. All money raised will help support sport, youth, and health programs for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Fundraising is still underway and donations can be made online at plunge4specialolympics.crowdchange.ca/54108.

This is not the only fundraiser they do for Special Olympics athletes. Each year, local RCMP take part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

“The Chilliwack RCMP wishes to thank the Cultus Lake Park Board for their support in this event,” Cpl. Carmen Kiener stated in a press release.
