Celebrate 'La St-Jean' with the francophones of the Fraser Valley at a special event in downtown Chilliwack on June 23.

Celebrate La St-Jean with the francophones and francophiles of the Fraser Valley at a special event in downtown Chilliwack on June 23.

The Fraser Valley Francophone Association is hosting a wine and cheese event in honour of the "La Fête St-Jean" as a summer social gathering.

"We are proud to invite the whole region to join us," said FVFA president René Garceau. "We look forward to seeing our neighbours and friends."

Music will be performed by Andrew Chabot as guests mingle and chat. A silent auction will tempt guests.

La St-Jean was an ancient nod to the feast of St. Jean the Baptist from Europe, but it travelled to the New World with the colonists. Today La Fete St-Jean has become a modern way to revel in the unique Québecois language and culture, as the national holiday of Quebec.

Tickets at the door are $15 for members, and $35 for non-members.

La Fete St-Jean, Saturday June 23, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sutton Downtown Business Centre, at 9240 Young Road in Chilliwack.
