Some upcoming events at the Chilliwack Library will celebrate two very different types of culture.

A Barbie-themed story time and ‘A Taste of Ukraine’ in Chilliwack are part of Culture Days, a national celebration of arts and culture.

First up is Barbie Evening Storytime, a pop-culture event for people of all ages on Monday, Sept. 25.

Kids are encouraged to come dressed in their pink best to celebrate all things Barbie. The story time will be followed by a Barbie-themed activity, and it runs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Leading up to the ‘think pink’ event, the Chilliwack Library has a Barbie photo booth where folks can step inside a life-sized pink Barbie doll box and strike a pose.

Then on Saturday, Oct. 14 Sherry Kassian brings A Taste of Ukraine to the library.

Owner of Sherry’s Carpathian Kitchen, Kassian will share samples of a few of her favourite dishes while explaining their cultural significance. This is a 19+ event and it runs from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Registration is required for A Taste of Ukraine. Call 604-792-1941 or drop bop by the library to sign up. Dietary restrictions cannot be accommodated.

Additionally, anyone can visit the ‘Taste of Culture Wall’ where people are welcome to take a recipe and/or share a recipe.

Culture Days 2023 takes place across Canada from Sept. 22 to Oct. 15.
