Get ready for some new faces and programming at the new Art Room on Vedder Road.
The Chilliwack Community Arts Council has purchased a storefront in the Vedder Village Centre, said executive director Rod Hudson.
After completing about $50,000 in renovations to the space, they're ready for a grand opening on May 11 from noon to five p.m. with cake, kids' crafts and info about the programs.
"We're inviting the whole community," he said.
They've hired a new program coordinator, Jen Sibley, to get things hopping.
She's originally from Abbotsford, spent some time in Chilliwack and moved up to Kaslo for work with a number of not-for-profit organizations.
"We've been busy," she said. "It's a great area to be in."
They've already had walk-in interest from the mall.
The arts council relocated operations to the south side after moving into the Cultural Centre when it was completed, which was a shift from the Arts Centre on Henderson.
This new space, although smaller, promises some new directions.
A drop-in kids' program will have kids aged 3 to 6 "messing around" with some activities considered a tad too messy for the living room.
Some culinary programming is also in the works, delving into areas like vegan or Indian cuisine.
Some classes start the first week of May.
Watch for listings about classes.
