The new lead instructor at the Cheam Mountain Golf Course has won the first Vancouver Golf Tour major of the 2017 spring/summer season.

Kevin Stinson was on fire Friday, shooting a scorching seven under par 65 to take the title at the VGT Masters.

The two round tourney was played at Morgan Creek in Surrey.

Stinson slogged through a sluggish opening round Thursday, carding a two-over-par 74 that included four bogeys. After opening the second round with another bogey he reversed course in dramatic fashion. Stinson had eight birdies over the final 17 holes, storming back to edge Chris Williams by one stroke and pocket $2500.

Chilliwack’s Brad Clapp tied for 13th with a three over par 147. Connor McLellan tied for 27th and Matt Gudmundson tied for 34th.
