For the second time this season, the Valley Huskers weren’t able to put a dent in the Langley Rams defence.
The undefeated Rams (5-0) beat the Huskers 27-4 in a Saturday BC Football Conference clash at McLeod Stadium in Langley.
Chilliwack (2-4) only put up 108 net yards of offence against the stingy Rams D, but unlike their previous meeting, a 22-0 loss in late September, the Huskers managed to put points on the board.
Kicker Ethan Homan nailed a field goal from 41 yards out and added a single on a punt into the endzone.
Langley has only given up 12 points, total, through five games, so getting four on the board actually counts as a moral victory.
Huskers quarterback Josh Janssen attempted just 10 passes, completing five for 35 yards. The Rams intercepted two passes and Jesse Goedman returned one 42 yards for a touchdown. Langley got another defensive score off a fumble recovery by Matteo Viani, who returned it five yards for a major.
While the passing game sputtered, there were signs of life in the Husker ground game.
Top tailback Brandon O’Connor was held to 29 yards on 15 carries, but Ebiye Okoko-Chomseng carried 10 times for 61 yards.
On the other side of the football, Chilliwack continued to show promising signs.
The Husker defence limited the Rams to one offensive touchdown (by running back Michael Calvert) and two Tato Ferreyro Araya field goals.
The Chilliwack secondary held the Langley passing game in check. Rams passers Calvert and Jakob Davies combined to complete just three of 10 passes for just 43 yards, 21 coming on one pass to Davis Osho.
Langley was able to move the ball on the ground, churning out 211 yards on 22 carries, led by Joel Klassen’s 116 yard day.
Andy Ofosuhene led the Huskers with six solo tackles and Chilliwack pass rushers combined for six quarterback sacks, two of those by James Moar.
The Huskers are back in action Saturday night with a road game at Kamloops.
Kickoff against the winless Broncos (0-5) is 6 p.m. at Hillside Stadium.
