Tough luck for Doug Marshall rink at senior men's playdown

Doug Marshall's Chilliwack Curling Club crew came up short in three brackets, failing to qualify for provincials.

The Chilliwack Curling Club’s Doug Marshall rink came up short in three different finals at last weekend’s senior men’s curling qualifier in Tsawwassen.

The Tunnel Town Curling Club hosted a crowded field of 14 teams in a full day of action Sunday.

Marshall was joined by lead Darren Jarvis, second Ken Britz and third Kevin Britz.

The quartet went 3-0 on their way to the A bracket final with a 13-5 win over Paul Dunkin (Vancouver Curling Club) and a 7-4 triumph over Alan Roemer (Tunnel Town/Delta Thistle) and a 6-5 win over Ken McArdle (Royal City/Langley.

But Marshall’s crew ran into their first wall in the final, falling 5-4 to Steve Wright’s Royal City rink.

Bumped to the B-bracket semi, Marshall beat Roemer’s rink again (6-5) and lost to McArdle in the final (8-5).

With one more chance to qualify for provincials, Marshall lost in a C-bracket final.
