Spring tour tees off

Chilliwack's Steven Scurr was the top local golfer at the first round of the Zone 3 Junior Spring Golf Tour.

The first leg of the Zone 3 Junior Spring Golf Tour was held last Sunday at Swan-E-set (Pitt Meadows).

Defending Canadian junior boys champion Kevin Kwon shot an impressive eight-under-par 64 to win the tournament on his home course.

Kwon’s margin of victory was five strokes over three golfers who tied for second place.

Connor O’Dell (Pitt Meadows Golf Club), Henry Lee (Swan-E-set) and Cody Stewart (Ledgeview Golf Course) all carded 69s.

Among Chilliwack golfers, Steven Scurr (Chilliwack Golf and Country Club) and Jake Scarrow (Sandpiper Golf Resort) both shot 75s. They finished 12th and 13th respectively, with Connor McLellan (CG&CC) one shot back at 76.

Kaleb Fisher (CG&CC) placed 35th. Bradley Lagematt  (CG&CC) placed 48th. Cultus Lake’s Nathen Bahnman placed 52nd  and Mitchel Thiessen (CG&CC) placed 53rd.

There where 65 golfers representing 15 golf clubs, the largest field in recent memory. The next round will be played at Sandpiper on Sunday.

Chilliwack’s Royalwood Golf and RV Resort hosts round five May 20.
