Sokolowski tops field at Sunfair meet

A 15-year-old GW Graham student ran three miles in 19:25 to take the junior varsity race at the Sunfair cross-country meet.

Chilliwack’s Kate Sokolowski grabbed gold in her first major cross country meet, topping the field at a competition in Yakima, Washington.

The 15-year-old GW Graham student competed in the junior varsity women’s three mile run. She took the lead early in the contest and used her diminutive build to good advantage, gaining ground on the upward portion on each of the six steep hills that make up a large portion of the Sunfair course.

Sokolowski completed her run in a time of 19:25 to place well in front of Idaho’s Hanna Orton. Seventy-two other girls that took part in the event.
