The Chilliwack Centre of Excellence hosts its annual Icebreaker Flatwater Slalom Races the last weekend of February.

Paddlers will tackle the Salmon River in Langley on Feb. 25 and the Highway Gates course in Chilliwack Feb. 26.

Paddlers of any experience level are welcome to participate.

The cost to Canoe-Kayak B.C. members is $20 per day.

The cost for non-members is $25 for youths or $30 for adults and there are discounted rates available for paddlers who participate both days.

‘Intro to slalom’ clinics start each day, with local paddlers teaching boat control skills and racing strategy.

Racing starts around 1 p.m. each day followed by an awards ceremony at 4.

Points will be awarded for each race and prizes will be given for the fastest overall male and female in the youth and adult categories.

The CCE provides kayaks, paddles, personal flotation devices and spraydecks, and recommends that paddlers dress warm.
