Sardis students muscle up for Strongman competition

Forty nine Sardis secondary school students tested themselves in five days of fierce competition.

Rowan Hamilton and Damon McArthur staged in an epic battle in the men’s heavyweight division at last week’s Sardis Strongman.

The Sardis secondary school students went toe-to-toe in the sled pull, sled push, tire flip, sandbag shuttle and farmer’s carry.

At the end of it, Hamilton prevailed by one point, 26 to 25. Trey Neuberger was third with 20 points.

Jon Heppell edged Marc Reeves for top spot in the men’s middleweight division, taking a four point win (32-28).

William Wright was third with 26 points while Sean McCracken racked up 24.

Mike Fitzsimmons earned a six-point win over Sam Moller in the men’s lightweight division.

Fitzsimmons tallied 52 points, Moller had 46 and third place finisher Noah Barkhouse had 45.

Anthony Hu was the men’s flyweight winner with 48 points, followed by Cole Johnston (43) and Isaiah Peters (38). Thirty four participated on the men’s side while 15 tackled the women’s event.

A highly competitive women’s middleweight group saw rugby star Kara Serruys roll up 38 points. She finished first followed by Jordyn Hryciw (36), Mercedes Schneider (35) and Roxanne Bates (30).

Ashlee Flokstra was a runaway winner in the women’s flyweight group. Her 30 points was nine better than runner up Yasmina Ennedam (21) while Bonnie Xie was third with 18.
