Sardis speed skater snares four medals at B.C. Winter Games

Clara Johnson won three individual and one team medal at the Games, held last weekend in Kamloops.

Sardis native Clara Johnson came away with four medals at last weekend’s B.C. Winter Games in Kamloops.

The 12 year old Vedder middle school student was one of the youngest competitors in short-track speed skating.

She won individual silver in the 200 and 1500 metre races, adding bronze in the 400m. Johnson teamed with Catalina-Mae Shupe (Maple Ridge), Samuel Green (Mission) and Asher Barnsdale (Mission) to win gold in the U-14 3000m mixed relay.

Zachary Carpenter also competed in speed skating.

He was 12th in his first U-16 500m race and 14th in his second. He was 14th in the 1500m and scored a 99 in the U-16 3000m point race.

Carpenter teamed with Jared Bolland (Mission), Ramanjit Chauhan (Abbotsf0rd) and Anabelle Green (Mission) to place fourth in the U-16 3000m mixed relay.

On the slopes, Jasper Shea finished 51st in the alpine skiing giant slamon single run.

Gymnast Sierra Stobbe earned a sixth place finish in the JO8 (Junior Olympian) beam competition. She finished 18th all-around. Stobbe was part of the JO7 and JO8 Fraser Valley team that finished fourth overall, joined by Lauren Robertson (Abbotsford), Chloe Hill (Langley), Sophie Kraushar (Langley), Aaliyah De Sousa (Maple Ridge) and Isabela Acosta (Maple Ridge).

Roshan Phung was seventh in archery in the two-day aggregate girls’ barebow competition.
