Sarah Wark wins mixed-doubles curling title

Teaming with Kelowna's Jeff Richard, the Chilliwackian won three games to win the 2017 B.C. Mixed-Doubles Curling Championship.

Chilliwack’s Sarah Wark and Kelowna’s Jeff Richard teamed up win a provincial banner last weekend.

One of 28 teams entered in the B.C. Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, Wark/Richard turned in a dominant performance at the Kelowna Curling Club.

The duo went 5-1 in their pool, earning a bye into the playoff semi-finals.

They dispatched the Gibson Curling Club’s Shannon and Chris Jay by a 10-6 score and bounced into the final with a 6-3 win over Carley Sandwith and Andrew Nerpin (Victoria/Kelowna).

Wark/Richard captured the crown with a 7-2 decision over Vernon’s Cotters, Jaelyn and Jim, blowing a close match open with two in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Chilliwack’s Glen and Sheila Ford were also in the field, but they bowed out after going 6-0 in pool play.

Joanne Kern and Allan Vanderveen went 3-3 in pool play while Stephen Strathdee and Royal City’s Michelle Macleod went 2-4. Neither team qualified for playoffs.
