Sarah Wark rallies to beat Prince Edward Island at Scotties Tournament of Hearts

Wark wasn’t at the top of her game, but her team did enough to improve to 6-3 overall.

Sarah Wark is off to a good start as the championship pool round starts at the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Wark and Team B.C. teammates Kristen Pilote (third), Carley Sandwith (second) and Jen Rusnell (lead) came from behind to beat Suzanne Birt’s Prince Edward Island rink by a 9-8 count Thursday morning at the national women’s curling championship.

Trailing 8-6 through eight ends, Wark scored two in the ninth end to tie and won it in the 10th end.

Wark struggled with her accuracy, shooting at 74 per cent. Pilote really struggled with her accuracy at 68 per cent, but their teammates picked up them.

Sandwith was almost perfect at 95 per cent and Rusnell was good for 84 per cent.

Michelle McQuaid was the top PEI curler at 79 per cent followed by Marie Christianson (76 per cent), Birt (70 per cent) and Meaghan Hughes (66 per cent).

Team B.C.’s next match is at 3:30 p.m. PST as they take on Robyn Silvernagle’s Saskatchewan rink.

The tournament is being played in Sydney, Nova Scotia and matches can be seen on TSN.
