Sarah Wark and Team B.C. lose to Northern Ontario at Scotties Tournament of Hearts

It was the second straight heartbreaking defeat for Wark after a promising 3-0 start.

Sarah Wark and Team B.C. lost their second straight heartbreaker at the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, falling 8-7 to Northern Ontario Tuesday morning.

It was the second straight one-point 11-end loss for Wark (3-2), following Monday’s 9-8 setback against Alberta.

Wark’s crew led 5-2 through five ends but Northern Ontario came roaring back to take a 7-6 lead through nine ends.

Wark had to scramble to tie it up in the 10th end, but Krista McCarville answered back with the winning point in the 11th end.

The skips both took 22 shots and curled at 86 per cent accuracy, but the rest of McCarville’s team was a step above their Team B.C. counterparts.

Team B.C.’s accuracy rates were 86 per cent for Jen Rusnell (lead), 85 per cent for Carley Sandwith (second) and 76 per cent for Kristen Pilote (third).

Team Ontario’s accuracy rates were 92 per cent for Jen Gates (second), 90 per cent for Kendra Lilly (third) and 88 per cent for Sarah Potts (lead).

Wark is back in action Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in her second-to-last group stage match, taking on Gabrielle Lavoie and Quebec.
