NWO Junior Roller Derby and NWO Roller Girls are hosting three games this weekend to kick off their season opener.

All three age groups representing the NWO Roller Girls will be gearing up for its season opener, Valley Girl Smack Down, this Saturday in Chilliwack.

The three-game, free event takes place Saturday, March 25 at the Landing Sports Centre starting at 1 p.m.

The NWO Wolfpack (adults), NWO Junior Derby’s Honey Badgers (12-18 years), and the juniors’ TNT team (age 8-12) will be going toe-to-toe with Mainland Misfits (Cloverdale) and two Seattle junior derby teams, respectively.

The day will start with the youngest of the league, NWO TNT, who will be playing Seattle Interstellas at 1:30 p.m. TNT is the only co-ed team NWO has; they are also non-contact. The local team will be borrowing five skaters from Vancouver Junior Roller Derby’s Nightmares team to fill its roster.

Next up, the NWO Honey Badgers will be facing Seattle Ultraviolets at 4 p.m. The all-girl Honey Badgers is a full-contact team.

And the last game of the night will feature one of NWO’s two adult teams, the Wolfpack. These women will be skating against the Mainland Misfits’ Smokin’ Laces at 7 p.m.

For those unfamiliar with the rules of roller derby, a demo will take place prior to the start of the TNT game.

There will be a silent auction at the season opener with about 15-20 items up for grabs including: 14 tickets and a private suite for the FMX Motocross World Tour at the Abbotsford Entertainment Centre (valued at more than $1,000), a Chilliwack River Rafting trip, a $320 gift certificate at Cruz Studios Tattoo, power tools, and a $100 spa gift certificate.

Also at the event, there will be half-time entertainment, a 50/50 draw, and a concession.

NWO Roller Girls’ Valley Girl Smack Down season opener is Saturday, March 25 at the Landing Sports Centre (45530 Spadina Ave.) with games at 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. Free admission.
