Chilliwack’s JEXCAR junior bantam Giants were on the road last Saturday (Oct. 2), travelling across the river the take on the Mission 9ers.

The Giants defence led the way to a 26-0 shutout win, holding the 9ers to just a pair of first downs in the entire game.

Linebackers Wyatt Carstensen, Lincoln Boyd and Jack Ekland made countless tackles in the 9ers backfield. Malakai Hakansson, Analia Alton and Brandon Davies were unstoppable on the defensive line, making tackle after tackle. Corner Pierce Newberry was Chilliwack’s leading tackler, fearlessly taking on all 9ers that dared come his direction.

The Giants offence scored early and often. Carstensen, Noah Spaner and Brodie Durie all had long rushing touchdowns in excess of 50 yards. The run of the day, however, was by Leif Skinner. He swept to the right for a 40 yard jaunt, carrying four would-be Mission tacklers the last five yards into the end zone.

Rylan Parks made a spectacular grab on one of the Giant’s converts. Elijah Reid and Ryden Tatler also made highlight reel catches. The offensive line was anchored by Jacob Stoneson, Ben McKay and Finely Twibill, who had their best games of the season.

Chilliwack’s atom White Giants played the Abbotsford Falcons, losing 46-26.

Abby got off to a hot start and led 34-6 at halftime. Chilliwack made a game of it in the second half, but the Abbotsford lead was too big to overcome.

Luka Powell produced two touchdowns and two one-point converts, and was named the offensive player of the game for Chilliwack. Hunter Gamboa and Grayson Johnson also had TDs. Courtney Cahoon contributed a massive hit on a Falcon defender.

Weston Clark was Chilliwack’s defensive player of the game.

Up next for the Giants, a Friday Night Lights home game versus the Mission 9ers.

The JEXCAR peewee White Giants hosted the Abbotsford Falcons in a Friday Night Lights game Oct. 1 at Townsend Park.

The final was 39-7 for the visitors, who maintained a perfect record (4-0).

The Falcons executed a perfect onside kick on the opening play and scored on their first drive of the game. The Giants responded with a nice drive of their own. Carson Breland and Logan Sargent gained big yards running to the outside, and Dawson Holdridge had some hard runs inside, but the drive was ultimately foiled by a fumble.

Abbotsford took advantage of the turnover to score their second touchdown.

The Giants offense put together another nice drive, mixing run and pass plays to keep the Falcons off balance. The highlight was a beautiful weak-side pass-and-run from quarterback Parker Grant to wide receiver Logan Macdonald, who tippy-toed down the sideline.

But again the drive ended with a fumble, which was turned into Abby’s third major.

Chilliwack got on the board before halftime. Their third drive saw catches from Macdonald and Jackson Sutton and great runs from Grant, Sargent and Breland behind huge blocks from Owen Franklin, Max Kiener, Cooper Cools, Ben Fleenor and Jackson Laing.

Grant followed his offensive line into the endzone for the first Chilliwack touchdown.

The second half was almost a mirror of the first. The Giants offense continued to move the ball but beat themselves with turnovers.

Owen Franklin provided a defensive highlight, jumping a Falcons wide receiver’s route to get a highlight reel interception and rumbling down the field for 30 yards.

The JEXCAR Pee Wee Blue Giants played their home opener Saturday against the North Langley Bears, winning a close one 12-6.

The Chilliwack offence moved the ball well, led by the all-round play of Kingston Moran, who finished the game with 87 yards through the air and 31 more on the ground. Strong offensive line play from Austin Pierce, Lucas McCoy and Dallas Beier opened holes for Blue Giants running backs. Landon Keddy led the backs with 63 yards. Anthony Stelcer made a highlight reel catch over the back of a Bears defender, going 49 yards before being brought to the ground just short of the end zone.

On defence, Ike Carstensen made huge tackles when challenged, leading the team in tackles and showing once again that the Island of Ike is not a friendly tourist destination. Carter Charlie chipped in with a huge interception and forced fumble, which Cole Dempsey recovered. Mason Natrall fought through the Bears line, blocking a point-after-touchdown attempt. Mason Adam had a strong game at cornerback, shutting down the outside run and smothering North Langley’s receivers.
