Local referee to work BC Cup

A Chilliwack official will hope to impress at a BC Hockey U-16 tourney and make the leap up to a higher level.

Chilliwack Minor Hockey official Connor McCracken is one of 12 referees selected from a pool of 4,500 to attend the B.C. Cup in Salmon Arm this weekend.

McCracken will officiate a six-team tournament that features 100 of the best U-16 hockey players in the province, including Chilliwack native Jason Bowen and Chilliwack Chiefs goaltending prospect Boston Bilous.

McCracken’s performance in Salmon Arm could springboard him to a provincial training camp in Shawnigan Lake this July.

From there he may possibly earn a roster spot in the ‘Above Minor’ program, which could see him referee at the major midget, junior B and junior A levels this fall.
