Lisa Deputan secures provincial spot with White Rock win

Deputan's Chilliwack Curling Club team earned one of three available spots in the B.C. Senior Women's Championship.

Lisa Deputan’s rink qualified for provincials with a Lower Mainland playdown win Jan. 8 in White Rock.

Joined by Kerri Miller (third), Jane Adam (second), Laurie Shimizu (lead) and coach Vic Shimizu, the Chilliwack Curling Club quartet was one of three qualifiers emerging from the seven team field.

Deputan advanced to the semi-finals of the A and B brackets, but came up short each time.

The A bracket saw her get past Richmond’s Yadranka Thompson (8-2) before yielding 7-3 to Karen Lepine’s Langley/Cloverdale crew.

The B bracket had her topping Royal City’s Isobel Gardner 7-6 before falling for a second time to Lepine (6-3).

Deputan was placed in the C bracket final against Cloverdale’s Lynda Roemer where she eaked out a 6-5 win.

Salmon Arm will host the 2017 BC Senior Curling Championships Feb. 20- 26.

The winning team in the field of eight will go on to represent B.C. at the 2017 Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Fredericton, NB.
