Learning experience for GW Graham basketball girls

GW Graham's Grade 8 girls basketball team finished 14th at last week's provincial tournament, but had a lot of fun doing it.

G.W. Graham’s Grade 8 girls basketball team lost three of four at provincials last week, a learning experience for a group of girls expected to do big things in the years to come.

The Grizzlies opened the tournament with a heart-breaking 42-41 loss to the Carson Graham Eagles.

Down three with six seconds left, Katherine Holden drained an apparent three point shot to tie the game. But the official ruled it a two.

GWG fell 46-40 to the Dr. Knox Falcons (Kelowna), but bounced back to demolish Pitt Meadows 47-22.

Heather Thomson led the offence with 22 points while Alex Demille added 16.

GWG’s final game was against Vernon. The Grizzlies had some open looks against the Vernon D, but struggled to knock down shots, losing 30-16.

GWG finished 14th overall.
