Honors for academic athlete

A star on the court and off, UFV women's basketball standout Nicole Wierks won the Female Academic Award for the second year in a row.

Chilliwack native Nicole Wierks picked up some hardware Friday as the University of the Fraser Valley held its annual athletics awards banquet.

The Chilliwack secondary school graduate was given the Female Academic Award for a second year in row.

A star on the UFV women’s basketball team, Wierks maintained a sparkling A+ (4.33) average. On the court she averaged 9.1 points per game and a staggering .519 field goal percentage.

Wierks wasn’t able to attend the awards banquet.

She was off on an interview for medical school.

Her teammate, Mission native  Aieisha Luyken, was named UFV’s female athlete of the year, with basketball standout Jasper Moedt getting the nod on the men’s side.

Women’s soccer standout Carley Radomski (Langley) was named the female rookie of the year.

Men’s soccer star Dylan Jordan (Surrey) was named the male rookie of the year.

Chilliwack’s Aaron Pauls was named most valuable player on the men’s golf team after leading his crew to a national title in 2013. Get the full awards online at ufvcascades.ca
