Chilliwackians have a chance to spend time with a hockey broadcasting legend as Chilliwack Rotary welcomes Jim Robson to their next meeting.
The online Zoom meeting will be held Friday (July 23) at noon. Guests are welcomed to listen in and there will be an opportunity for questions from the floor. Anyone who is interested can email firstname.lastname@example.org by 9 a.m. Friday for a Zoom invite.
Robson was the radio voice of the National Hockey League’s Vancouver Canucks from the team’s inception in 1970 until its Stanley Cup finals appearance in 1994, and did local TV broadcasts until 1999.
Nationally, Robson called four Stanley Cup finals (1975, 1980, 1982 and 1983) for CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada and covered NHL all-star games for HNIC in 1977, 1981 and 1983.
Robson was given the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award by the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992 and the 86-year-old is a member of the BC Sports Hall of Fame, the BC Hockey Hall of Fame and the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
